Mandya: Even as the number of suicide cases are said to be on the decline, another famer committed suicide in Mandya district owing to financial burden.

T. Ramesh (44) was found hanging at his residence in Taggahalli of Maddur taluk on Saturday. He had drilled two borewells, which failed to yield water, the Koppa police said.

The farmer had borrowed around Rs. 4 lakh from banks and moneylenders to drill the borewells and for personal reasons.

He had also incurred a huge loss due to crash in prices of silk cocoons, the police said.

Officials from the revenue and agriculture departments visited Taggahalli and consoled his family.

Local residents demanded suitable compensation to the family.
