Residents of Annur village in the district staged a protest, outside the district police headquarters here on Wednesday, to condemn the failure of the officials in initiating measures against an employee in the office of the Superintendent of Police.

According to the protesters, Shankaregowda, a resident of Annur, sustained severe injuries on March 16 after his motorcycle was hit by Mahesh’s motorcycle near Annur. Mr. Mahesh is an employee at the SP’s office. The victim had been struggling to recover since March 16 and had already spent ₹7 lakh for his medical expenses, they said.

The protesters alleged that the accused had argued with the victim, left him on the ground and fled the scene sometime after the accident.

In spite of submitting complaints and some petitions, the police personnel concerned are not taking any measures against him, they told presspersons.

“We are very poor and are expecting justice from the SP [K. Parashuram],” Shruthi, daughter of Mr. Shankaregowda, said.

Mr. Parashuram has instructed the police personnel concerned to conduct an investigation in connection with the incident.
