U.R. Ananathamurthy, Jnanpith Award winner and Chancellor of Central University, Karnataka, Gulbarga, will receive the Basheer Puraskaram at the Dr. T.M.A. Planetarium Complex here on September 27.
The Basheer Puraskaram, instituted by Pravasi Doha, will be presented to him at a function organised by the Manipal Centre for Philosophy and Humanities, (MCPH), a constituent of Manipal University.
M.T. Vasudevan Nair, distinguished Malayalam writer and winner of the Jnanpith Award, and T.J.S George, senior journalist, will speak at the award presentation function. Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University K. Ramnarayan will preside over the function. This will be followed by a short national award winning documentary on Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, one of the greatest Indian writers.
Pravasi Doha is a socio-cultural, literary and charitable organisation of Keralites in Qatar. It has been giving the puraskaram annually since 1995. It was instituted in the memory of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer.
Prof. Ananthamurthy was chosen for this award for his contribution to literature.
