October 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - Mandya:

C.S. Puttaraju, MP for Mandya, alleged that Housing Minister M.H. Ambareesh took back the cheque All-India Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president Rahul Gandhi issued to the family of a farmer who committed suicide.

Mr. Gandhi, along with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G. Parameshwara, visited Sabakanahalli in Pandavapura taluk on Friday afternoon and issued a cheque amounting Rs. 1 lakh to the widow of farmer Lokesh.

According to Mr. Puttaraju, hours after Mr. Gandhi left Mandya, Mr. Ambareesh took back the cheque.

Telephoned on Friday

“Mr. Ambareesh telephoned me on Friday evening instructing to collect the cheque and send it to him,” he said.

Corrections to be made

However, Belur Somashekar, general secretary of MDCC, said the cheque was taken back as there were minor corrections to be made in the cheque issued. The party has already taken steps to re-issue the cheque to the farmer’s widow, he told The Hindu .
