Minister for Mines and Geology and District-in-charge Vinay Kulkarni announced here on Saturday that an all-party delegation of MPs and MLAs from North Karnataka would be taken to Goa for talks on the sharing of Mahadayi river water.

He was addressing a gathering of farmers, people from different walks of life and students at Kittur Chennamma Circle here on Saturday after launching the post card campaign seeking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in solving what has become an inter-state problem now.

The Minister said that he had already spoken to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on the issue and the need for resolving the long pending issue through negotiations outside the tribunal. “I have apprised the Chief Minister about the need for initiating a dialogue and within a week’s time an all-party delegation from the region would be taken to Goa. We will meet both the Chief Minister and the Opposition Party leaders in Goa with an appeal for facilitating an early solution to the long pending problem”, he said.

Mr. Kulkarni said that the farmers of the region were seeking what was their due share of water from the Mahadayi. And availability of water was essential for the development of the region. What the farmers was seeking was their rightful share in the Mahadayi river, which even the Goa Government was not utilising.

He reiterated that he had come in support of the farmers’ agitation and the need was to find a solution to the problem that was pending since over four decades.
