The Akshaya Patra Foundation in Mysuru commemorated the cumulative serving of 3 billion meals at an event held in the city on Monday.

While the main programme was held at Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh, the commemorative event in Mysuru was held at Sarada Vilas Centenary Hall in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Abhiram S. Sankar. A release said Akshaya Patra was striving to address the issue of malnutrition in schoolchildren by implementing the mid-day meal schemes in government and government-aided schools since the year 2000.

The Deputy Commissioner said the mid-day meal scheme had helped thousands of children to return to school and thereby has arrested the school dropout rates. Rasika Shekara Dasa, Vice-President, ISKCON, Mysuru made a video presentation and showcased the methodology involved in cooking and distribution of Akshaya Patra meals.
