Central leaders of the Congress will descend on Bengaluru on Monday to hold consultations for five days with top party leaders, Ministers, legislators, and district Congress committee presidents for preparing the party’s strategy for the Assembly elections.
Instructions have been given to all party functionaries from 30 districts to cancel other programmes and be present in the meeting.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC chief G. Parameshwara and working president Dinesh Gundu Rao, and AICC general secretary in-charge K.C. Venugopal will preside over the meetings to iron out differences among leaders during the election year.
As the election to office-bearers of the youth Congress was completed, the sessions will focus on revamping the State Congress, appointment of a new KPCC president, and filling of two Cabinet seats, according to sources in the party.
Mr. Venugopal will hold discussions with six DCC presidents and office-bearers for a day. He will gather information about the strength of the Opposition parties as well the Congress in each constituency.
Besides hearing suggestions from party functionaries and Ministers, the AICC team will review implementation of the welfare programmes and policies of the State government during the past four years. Sources said the team will invite ideas from leaders on strengthening the party organisation, party’s connectivity with the electorate, and other issues to take on the Opposition in the upcoming polls.
With some leaders from other parties evincing interest to join the Congress, sources said the AICC team will formalise criteria for inducting candidates during the next one year.
