Former Member of Parliament A.H. Vishwanath on Tuesday announced his decision to quit the Congress.
Addressing a meeting of his supporters in Mysuru, Mr. Vishwanath said he will be formally submitting his resignation letter to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G. Parameshwar in Bengaluru within a week.
However, he said no decision had been taken on joining any other party.
Mr. Vishwanath, who launched a broadside against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during an address before announcing his resignation, said the Congress party with which he was associated for 40 years, will remain his “mother” till his death.
“I am resigning from Siddaramaiah’s Congress,” said Mr. Vishwanath, also a Kuruba like Mr. Siddaramaiah, before publicly expressing regret for allowing him to enter the Congress party more than a decade ago.
