Vehicular movement along the Agumbe Ghat road, considered to be the main link between Malnad and coastal Karnataka, would resume from Thursday.

Landslides were reported along this stretch in June and July 2018 following heavy rainfall. Vehicular movement had been barred from April 1 to May 15 for repair and restoration work.

The work on reconstruction of parapet and retaining walls has been completed. The surface of the road has been relaid with dense bitumen concrete.

Heavy vehicles

K.A. Dayanand, Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner, told The Hindu that the movement of mini-buses, two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and light commercial vehicles would be allowed from May 16. A decision on allowing heavy commercial vehicles and cargo container trucks would be taken later, he added.
