A.V.M. Subramaniyam, Superintending Archaeologist, Archaeological Survey of India, Dharwad circle, has said that the Adil Shahi monuments of Vijayapura had been tentatively included in the proposal for UNESCO’s heritage tag.
He was speaking after releasing the Urdu translation of the Persian book, ‘Basateen-us-Salateen’ (Gardens of Sultans), by Moulana Mehboob-ur-Rehman Madani at Secab College here on Wednesday.
Mr. Subramaniyam said that since the UNESCO norms for giving a heritage tag to any monument was stringent, they were first required to prepare the grounds before seeking the approval.
“The norms include better civic amenities to visitors and other facilities. These facilities should be provided only by the government and the local administration. If the facilities are given, then ASI can push the matter to UNESCO for the tag,” he said.
He said that other monuments, including those of Bidar and Golconda of Hyderabad were also in the running for the tag, and added that if the facilities were given, then getting the tag was easy. Regarding the demand to introduce light and sound facility at the historical Gol Gumbaz, he said that the ASI would get the permission of the State government to offer the proposal to the ASI.
He said that such permission has already given accorded to the forts of Bidar, and Vijayapura could also get that easily.Earlier, mentioning the book, Mr. Madani said that the book was originally written in Persian by 1826, which was later translated into other languages such as Marathi, but it had never been translated into Urdu.“The Institute of Adil Shahi Studies set up by Secab institution helped in getting this book translated into Urdu,” he said.Rafi Bhandari, member, Karnataka Urdu Academy, said that though the academy had no provision of translating Urdu books into any other language, however he assured to get a special permission to get the book translated into English.
