Expressing his concern for the agriculture sector and the plight of the farmers, Sathish Ninasam, Kannada film actor, has pledged to donate 10 per cent of the earnings from his film Rocket to farmers.
Addressing presspersons here on Friday, who had come for promoting his film, he said that it was his moral responsibility to do something for farmers.
“My film is expected to be released on the first of the November, I have decided to put aside a share of its earning for the welfare of the farming community, which is in distress,” he asserted.
Mr. Ninasam said that irrespective of the fate of his upcoming film, he wanted to help at least hundred farmers financially every year, and would start the work from this year itself.
“I too have a couple of acres land and cultivate sugarcane on that. I know how difficult agriculture has become over the years. Even after working for a whole year, often, farmers are unable to earn even Rs. 10,000,” Mr. Ninasam said.
He urged the government to come to the rescue of the farming community.
About the controversial dubbing issue, he said that though he was opposed to it in principle, many of those supporting it were producers or people belonging to the Kannada film industry, and so it was hard to take sides.
“In such a situation, it is difficult to take the side of a particular group,” he said.
About his upcoming movie, he said that it was his first movie as both actor and producer.
“I have lot of expectations from my film and hope that the people will accept it with open heart,” said.
