October 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - MYSURU:

A group of pro-Kannada activists went on a rampage inside a shoe store near the suburban bus-stand in the city on Wednesday in protest against the use of red and yellow cloth for displaying footwear.

In the melee, footwear worth Rs. 2 lakh, thrown out by the protesters, was allegedly carried away by the public, including travellers visiting the bus stand. The activists were expressing their ire over the display of footwear on cloth which had the colours of the Kannada flag, said City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda.

About 10 to 15 activists, who stormed the Bata showroom without any notice, damaged the furniture.

In view of Dasara festivities, the suburban bus-stand was crowded. The police said the store did not have a CCTV installed as it was opened just seven days ago. However, the rampage has been captured on video and the police will go through the visuals to ascertain the identity of the attackers. We are in the process of identifying the culprits, said Mr. Dayananda.

They were angry that footwear was displayed on red and yellow cloth (colours of the Kannada flag)
