A sumptuous breakfast was served to mahouts and kavadis of Dasara elephants, and their family members, on Mysuru palace premises on Sunday morning.
V. Srinivas Prasad, Revenue Minister and district in-charge Minister, and H.S. Mahadeva Prasad, Minister for Co-operation, served them breakfast and later joined them. Idli, vada and sambar, dosa, khara and sweet pongal, puri sagu and fruit salad were served.
Later, Mr. Prasad said that the mahouts and kavadis were here to help celebrate Dasara festival successfully and tradition demanded that they be served well during their stay here. “We will provide all necessary infrastructure to them during their stay,” he added.
Hungry children
Over 20 children of mahouts and kavadis patiently waited for the Revenue Minister’s arrival for food to be served. Breakfast was scheduled for 9.30 a.m., but Mr. Prasad did not arrive until an hour later.
To keep the children engaged, a game of musical chairs was organised for them till the Minister arrived.
By then, the children were so hungry that they gulped down everything served! A tent school has also been set up on the palace premises to ensure that these children continue their education. Over 30 children have been admitted in the school, which will function till the mahouts return to their native places after Dasara. Meanwhile, the Mysore Librarians and Information Scientists’ Association (MyLISA) has come forward to enlighten children about libraries. Medical camps will be held for the children.
M.K. Somashekar, MLA; Mohan, chairman of Myuru Urban Development Authority; and Pushpa Amarnath, zilla panchayat president, were present.
