A. Manju’s meeting with Vishwanath sparks speculation

Former Minister and BJP leader A. Manju met former Minister A.H. Vishwanath, who has been disqualified from the Legislative Assembly, in Mysuru on Thursday, sparking more speculation in political circles.

Mr. Manju, who quit the Congress and joined the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, held discussions with Mr. Vishwanath at Jaladarshini Guest House in the city.

However, Mr. Manju sought to scotch speculation over the possibility of his candidature from the BJP in the bypolls to the Assembly from Hunsur. “I am not an aspirant for the bypolls in Hunsur,” Mr. Manju clarified.

He even tried to downplay the political significance of the meeting by claiming that he had come to the gues thouse and just happened to meet Mr. Vishwanath.

He also claimed that both he and Mr. Vishwanath were now together in the same party and hastened to add that he would be among the first ones to welcome him if he decided to join the BJP.

Mr. Manju said there are several capable candidates from the BJP to contest from Hunsur and added that even Mr. Vishwanath was a strong candidate and did not rule out the possibility of him entering the fray during the bypolls. However, Mr. Vishwanath, while speaking to the media, said any decision on his entering the poll fray from Hunsur can be taken only after the Supreme Court decides on the petition filed by the disqualified MLAs against the former Speaker Ramesh Kumar’s decision on oust them from the House. Mr. Vishwanath also clarified that Mr. Manju will not be contesting from Hunsur.

Mr. Vishwanath, who has already complained against phone tapping by former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, said there should be a CBI probe.
