A Guinness record in 51 seconds

The 12-year-old Ojal Sunil Nalavadi enters the Guinness Book of World Record for achieving the fastest 400m on roller skates blindfolded in the female category in Hubbali. Ojal achieved this feat in record 51 seconds.

It proved to be a special Children’s Day for 12-year-old girl Ojal Sunil Nalavadi as she set the Guinness record for the fastest 400 metres on roller skates blindfolded in the girls category here on Thursday.

Ojal Nalavadi completed the feat successfully in 51 seconds on the TenderSure road at Shirur Park area here. Guinness Book of World Record officer Victor Fenes confirmed Ojal Nalavadi’s feat and handed her a certificate. A large number of people gathered to witness this rare event during the early hours.

Ojal Nalavadi is the daughter of Sunil Nalavadi and Deepa S. Nalavadi. She has received training from coach Akshay Suryavamshi. She has 13 records, including the Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records, to her credit.

Ojal Nalavadi said that she has been practising since two years. In the last two months, she practised on this particular stretch at Shirur Park, especially for the purpose of setting the world record. The Guinness authorities had given 60 minutes but she finished it in 51 seconds, she said and added that she would attempt to break her own record in the coming days.
