A youth selling T-shirts with a message about “Belagavi belonging to Maharashtra” in Ganpat Galli, a busy commercial street under the Khade Bazaar Police Station in the city, was picked up by the police immediately after they learnt about the matter here on Friday evening.
Sources said that the youth was selling T-Shirts displaying the controversial statement in Marathi: “Me Belgaoncha, Belgaon Maharashtracha” (I belong to Belgaon, Belgaon belongs to Maharashtra), at a time when the Marathi-speaking linguistic community is preparing for a show of solidarity by organising a public rally here on February 16.
