Young farmer ends life

February 09, 2017 12:50 am | Updated 12:50 am IST - Mandya:

A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at his residence at Kabbare village, in Maddur taluk of the district, on Tuesday night.

The deceased, Madhukumar (23), was upset as a borewell he had recently drilled failed to yield water, officials from the Revenue and Police Departments said.

According to the police, the deceased had farmlands about 60 guntas and had availed ₹2.5 lakh in loans from various sources to drill the borewell and cultivate crops. He had been worried about clearing the debts.

The Maddur police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
