Swine flu patients who died in Goa came from Karnataka

September 05, 2009 04:07 pm | Updated 04:07 pm IST - Panaji:

Goa health authorities have said there has been no swine flu death in Goa and the patients who died of swine flu had come from neighbouring Karnataka, to be admitted to a hospital here.

"These deaths should not be taken as those from Goa as the patients got infected in Karnataka and were admitted to a hospital in Goa for treatment," Director of health services Dr Rajnananda Desai said in a letter to the Union Health Ministry.

A patient from Akola locality of Karwar district in Karnataka died a few days ago in Goa Medical College Hospital and his throat swab confirmed that he was suffering from swine flu. In another case, a 31-year-old patient died on August 1 in the same hospital also had tested positive for swine flu. "He also hailed from Karwar district of Karnataka. Hence we cannot say these were local deaths," Dr Jose de Sa, nodal officer for swine flu, said.

The state health authorities today said that Goa had recorded 238 suspected cases of swine flu of which 31 were positive.
