State police arrest Veerappan's wife

April 22, 2011 12:15 am | Updated 12:15 am IST - Bangalore:

The Tamil Nadu police on Thursday arrested Muthulakshmi, wife of slain brigand Veerappan, after she was handed over by the Karnataka police.

On Wednesday, Chamarajanagar District and Sessions Court Judge A.C. Vidhyadar had acquitted Muthulakshmi in the May 1993 Rangaswamy Oddu bomb attack case citing lack of evidence.

Chief Superintendent of Prisons Vishwanathaiah told The Hindu that there was another case against Muthulakshmi in Tamil Nadu. “The Tamil Nadu police were looking for her in connection with that case. After the Karnataka police arrested her, they had got in touch with the Karnataka police and handed over the case details.”

He said that since the case is still pending, the Karnataka prison officials had informed the Tamil Nadu police about her acquittal. “Since she is wanted in connection with another case in Tamil Nadu, we cannot release her.”
