State government urges Union Ministry to postpone NEET

The State government has appealed to the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development to postpone the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to medical courses slated for May 5 as it coincides with the Assembly elections in the State. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Minister for Medical Education S.A. Ramdas said that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) would conduct NEET for admission to MBBS and BDS on May 5 and nearly 40,000 students were appearing for it in the State.

The examination will be conducted across seven centres in the State for which thousands of staff would be deployed on invigilation and other examination-related duty. “If the examination was not postponed, then hundreds of people would be deprived of their voting rights and hence, we have appealed to the Ministry to postpone NEET,” he added.
