The slender hopes nurtured by the family members of Sepoy Mahesha in H.D. Kote, Mysuru district, and of Subedar T.T. Nagesha at Tejur in Hassan district have been dashed with the Army confirming their deaths. They were among the 10 soldiers missing following an avalanche in the Siachen glacier.
On Tuesday, Mysuru district administration communicated the news of Sepoy Mahesha’s death to his family. Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru district C. Shikha told The Hindu that she received the official communication about the death of Mahesha (29) late on Monday night. “I visited the family’s house in H D Kote and condoled his death,” she said.
Meanwhile, Army personnel have called up the family of Subedar Nagesha and said that the body will reach the native place by February 11. The date of arrival of Sepoy Mahesha’s body in H.D. Kote has not yet been confirmed. The Defence Ministry will have to inform the district administration about the dispatch of the body after completing the identification process, said Ms. Shikha.
