Schoolchildren block highway for two hours

Opposing the Education Department's move to transfer their favorite teacher, students of the Government Lower Primary School at Kempegowdana Doddi on the outskirts of Ramanagaram launched a roadblock protest on Friday.

Following the agitation, the traffic on the busy Ramanagaram-Magadi Main road in Ramanagaram was completely suspended.

According to the parents and students, the department recently transferred a teacher, Anasuyamma, from the school.

As she is very much affectionate to the students, they launched the agitation by blocking the Highway. "We want our teacher... we want justice," the students cried.

Upon hearing the news, residents from the surrounding areas too joined the protest and locked the school. The villagers too raised slogans against the Block Education Officer, Kumaraswamy, as he took two hours to reach the spot that is just 3 km from the town.

At 12.20 pm, they withdrew the protest after the officials assured of considering their demands.
