Rs. 1,000 crore relief insufficient, says Venkaiah Naidu

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday demanded that the Centre sanction at least Rs. 5,000 crore as interim relief to Karnataka for flood relief works.

The Rs 1,000 crore assistance announced on Saturday by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after an aerial survey of the rain-ravaged areas was insufficient, he told reporters here.

Mr. Naidu pledged Rs one crore fund from MPs Local Area Development grants to Karnataka to enable the government to take up renovation of damaged school buildings.

He demanded that the Centre find a solution to counter the Naxal menace, which, he said, has been on the rise in the country.
