Royal Mysuru Marathon on January 29

The Royal Mysuru Marathon scheduled to be held here on January 29 will feature a 21-km Royal Run covering historic and heritage buildings in the open category.

The marathon will include a number of runs including a 10 km Heritage Run, 3 km Green Run/Walk, 3 km Students/Vidya Run/Walk, 3 km Senior Citizens Josh Run/Walk and 1 km Life Challengers Run/Walk/Wheel for people with disabilities.

The marathon will start from JSS Science and Technology University or the SJCE campus. Those interested can register on www.royalmysurumarathon.com before January 20, 2017.

“The Royal Mysuru Marathon is not only a running event, encouraging health and fitness, but also a charity event to raise funds to support the underprivileged communities through participating civil society organisations in and around Mysuru,” the website stated.

Swamy Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM), a development organisation, which is currently supporting about 120 patients under its palliative care programme, is participating in the marathon. SVYM’s palliative care programme provides free, holistic, home-based care for the people, who are suffering from life-limiting disorders and diseases, a statement stated. SVYM’s palliative care team, which has served more than 500 patients since 2011, comprises of five volunteer doctors, two staff nurses, two health facilitators, one counsellor, one co-ordinator and one project director.
