Revenue Minister G. Karunakara Reddy has said that religious fundamentalism and regional chauvinism pose serious challenges to national integrity.

He said divisive forces were working rigorously to tear apart the social fabric of the country. “Our linguistic diversities have often generated tensions and conflicts and are threatening the unity of the country,” he added.

He was making these observations after inaugurating the National Integration Camp organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra and the district administration here on Friday. Mr. Reddy said it was important for communities to maintain harmony and cordial relationships between one another if all-round development of the country was to be ensured. The Minister felt that programmes such as youth camps helped build a strong nation.

“These programmes also help create opportunities for youngsters from different parts of the country to live, interact and learn together in an environment of love and respect. They will also understand and appreciate people living in different parts of the country,” he said. Sports Minister Gulihatti Shekhar was present.
