D.N. Jeevaraj, BJP MLA and former Minister, has been named as accused number one in a rape case filed on Friday, three years after the alleged incident, but the legislator quickly rejected the charge terming it “politically motivated”.
The case was registered by the Narasimharajapura police following a complaint by a 23-year-old woman.
Speaking to The Hindu, Superintendent of Police of Chikmagalur Abhishek Goyal said that a case had been taken up under Sections 366 (abduction), 354 (assault), rape (376) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
“Kidnapped too”
He said that the complainant alleged that she was kidnapped by the former Minister and two of his followers and Mr. Jeevaraj allegedly raped her in a farmhouse in May 2010.
The police said that she had told them that she had delayed filing the complaint as she was threatened with dire consequences if she did that.
Speaking to presspersons in Bangalore, the former Minister said he had also complained to the Vidhana Soudha police that some people were making baseless charges against him.
The BJP leader, who has been elected to the Assembly from Sringeri, said that he had briefed the Sringeri Sankaracharya about the false allegations.
