Polling for 106 seats in 10 APMCs of Belagavi district today

Polling for 106 seats of the 10 Agriculture Produce Marketing Committees in Belagavi district will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday.

All preparations to conduct the polling in a free and peaceful manner have been done and prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Cr.PC have been clamped in a radius of 100 metres of the polling stations.

Briefing about the steps taken for the polls, Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram said here on Wednesday that a holiday had been given for all such schools and colleges on Thursday where polling stations have been set up.

Police Commissioner T.G. Krishna Bhat and Superintendent of Police B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda said that adequate bandobast arrangements had been made, which included mobile parties to ensure peace and harmony during polling.

Elected unopposed

Mr. Jayaram said that there were 140 constituencies under the 10 APMCs in the district. As 28 candidates have been elected unopposed and there were no nominations for six places, polling would be conducted for 106 constituencies.

There are 10,72,530 voters, including 1,41,147 women.
