A person who stabbed two petrol bunk workers and escaped from the police was arrested in the hospital where he sought treatment for a feigned injury in Bidar in the wee hours of Thursday.

Surendra Kote (28) of Halladkeri stabbed Anil Bakchodi (22) and Ramshetty Aliambar (26) at the Beldale petrol bunk on Mannalli road when they asked him for money for the petrol he had bought. Staff and customers caught him and found that he was inebriated. An assistant sub-inspector on night patrol was called to the spot. However, before the officer could take him to the police station, he escaped. One hour later, he came to the district hospital alleging that the police had beaten him and that he needed treatment.

Police sub-inspector B. Santosh who was in the hospital talking to the stab victims, arrested the accused.

Superintendent of Police Prakash Nikam said the incident is being investigated. Action will be taken against police officers found guilty of negligence and unprofessional management of the situation, he said. A case has been registered in the Gandhi Gunj police station.
