With the thought that saplings represent growth and hope for a greener future, A. Dileepkumar from Kolar decided to gift more than 1,000 jackfruit saplings to his guests at his wedding on Saturday.
The saplings were sourced from Puttur, in Dakshina Kannada district, for the occasion and guests, who attended the union of Mr. Dileepkumar and V. Bhavya at Sri Shanti Kalyana Mantapa in Kolar, were pleasantly surprised with the gift.
Mr. Dileepkumar, a resident of Muduvadi in Kolar, has adopted a greener and more sustainable way of life.
He and his friends have been involved in planting saplings in several districts in Kolar and Bengaluru Rural.
When he decided to marry his fiancée, Mr. Dileepkumar came up with the idea of distributing saplings to the guests as a way to make the celebration not only memorable but also meaningful.
“Preserving the environment is the responsibility of every citizen. We hope that our guests will cultivate these saplings in their plots and nourish them with love. Beside providing fruit and shade, the trees are also economically beneficial to cultivators,” he said.
The saplings were sourced from Ninnikallu nursery, run by Anil Kumar, who is popularly called Jack Anil.
Mr. Anil Kumar said that it was for the first time he supplied jackfruit saplings for a wedding event.
Mr. Dileepkumar had placed the order about a year ago. The saplings supplied were about two-years-old and were more than 3 ft. in height to prevent cattle from grazing on them them.
They were distributed to guests of the ceremony and reception on Saturday and will also be gifted to those attending the muhurtha on Sunday morning.
