January 04, 2017 11:53 pm | Updated 11:53 pm IST - BENGALURU:

Karnataka’s Water Resource Minister M.B. Patil has said complying with the Supreme Court’s order is impossible under the present circumstances. “How do we release water when there is no water in the four reservoirs of the Cauvery basin?” he said.

Speaking to The Hindu , he said the Cauvery basin area was facing severe drought for the second year and the water level at the Krishnaraja Sagar was close to dead storage. An official in Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd. said the level would reach dead storage in three days if water is released at the rate of 2,000 cusecs.
