Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former Minister H.D. Revanna said here on Wednesday that nobody could break the bonding he shared with his younger brother H.D. Kumaraswamy, party’s State president. “I have accepted Kumaraswamy as my leader. And, there is no question of changing my stance,” he told presspersons, reacting to allegations of eight suspended JD(S) MLAs.
On the allegation that he did not want Mr. Kumaraswamy’s progress in politics, Mr. Revanna said he had always followed the advice of his father, H.D. Deve Gowda, and would continue to do the same. He had no differences with Mr. Kumaraswamy, he said, and added that nobody could succeed in breaking their relationship.
He maintained that he had not taken money from anyone for nominating candidates to the Rajya Sabha. “I am ready to take an oath in any temple affirming that I have not taken money. Similarly, Congress leaders should make it clear as to how they secured the extra votes in favour of their third candidate K.C. Ramamurthy,” he said.
Referring to the suspended MLAs’ move to hold conventions in different parts of the State, Mr. Revanna said the JD(S) had proved its popularity in the elections to the Legislative Council. “These rebels could not do anything in the Council elections. Our candidate K.T. Srikante Gowda has won in the South Graduates constituency. Graduate voters, who are intelligent, are with the JD(S),” he said. He added that all the 32 MLAs of the party would work under the leadership of Mr. Kumaraswamy to build the party and bring it to power in 2018.
Inquiry
Mr. Revanna took objection to the Election Commission filing a case against party MLA Mallikarjun Khuba in connection with the case of cash for votes in the Rajya Sabha elections. “It is not proper to file a case against only the JD(S) MLA. Chances of a fair inquiry into the case are rare as the case is being handled by the State police. The matter should be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation,” he said.
