Naxal surrenders in Chikmagalur

A Naxal, against whom a case is pending, surrendered before the district administration here today.

Venkatesh, 30, who hails from Hagalaganchi village in Sringeri taluk, surrendered before District Deputy Commissioner Chennappa Gowda and Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar.

Mr. Gowda said of the three cases Venkatesh faced, he had been acquitted in two and one relating to procurement and supply of gelatin sticks was pending before a court.

The government will grant him Rs. one lakh following his surrender and help him get Rs. one lakh loan to start a new life, he said.

Mr. Gowda said Venkatesh has sought two acres of land and it has been forwarded to the government for approval.
