The KLE University’s School of Music has organised a special music concert featuring eminent Hindustani vocalist Anuradha Kuber of Pune at its centre on the university campus at 4.30 p.m. here on Saturday.
The concert has been organised to pay a befitting musical tribute to the late musicologist and tabla player Hayavadan Joshi of Belagavi on his seventh death anniversary.
The late musicologist along with orthopaedic surgeon Rajendra Bhandankar was responsible for the establishment of the music school with the support of KLE Society Chairman Prabhakar Kore.
The school was inaugurated by doyen of Kirana Gharana late Gangubai Hangal on April 12, 2008.
According to a release issued by the music school here on Friday, Anuradha Kuber is an ‘A’ grade vocalist of Akashvani.
She is one of the few torch-bearers of the Bhendi Bazaar Gharana.
She was initiated into music at a tender age of six and was groomed in the gharana gayaki for over 15 years by veteran musician and her guru late T.D. Janorikar from who she imbibed various facets and nuances of the Bhendi Bazaar tradition of singing at the prestigious Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata.
KLE Music School principal Sneha Rajurikar said that the students of the school would also pay their tributes to Hayavadan Joshi on the occasion.
