Manipal University breaks into Top 200 in Asia


Manipal University figures at the 200th position in the Quacquarelli Symonds University Asia Ranking list 2016 released on Tuesday.

A press release issued by the university here on Wednesday said that top 350 universities from 17 countries were considered for ranking this time and Manipal University has for the first time broken into the prestigious position among Asian universities.

Manipal University Chancellor, Ramdas M. Pai said, “I am glad to learn Manipal University has achieved the 200th position in Asia. I am sure we will continue to do better in improving our rank in the years to come.”

Vice-Chancellor H. Vinod Bhat said that he was delighted at the university entering the QS Asia 200 ranking list.

“The last one year saw operationalising of several new initiatives including three Centres of Excellence – Centre for Avionics, Centre for Newborn Errors of Metabolism and Centre for Biophotonics. We also started 40 other centres which have already started yielding results through their research and publications thereby contributing to the visibility of the university.”

He said that the university was now leading the Basic Medical Science initiative as a part of the National Program for Technology Enhanced Learning in collaboration with IIT Madras. Manipal University and few of its constituent institutions have done exceedingly well in some of the rankings this year.

Manipal College of Dental Sciences was declared the best in the country among pharmacy colleges by the Union HRD Ministry.
