“I am a woman, I am safe under the Modi government,” said Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Vikas Parva here on Thursday, Ms. Gandhi said the Union government had brought in many programmes for the safety of women. She went on to add that violence and atrocities against women “cannot be completely prevented, but can only be reduced and controlled”.
Women in police force
Ms. Gandhi said the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued an advisory in 2009 to all State governments to increase the representation of women in police to 33 per cent. She said only eight States have reserved posts for women at different levels of the force, but Karnataka was not one of them.
Talking about the ICDS schemes, she said anganwadi workers with 10 years’ service would be made supervisors. She said the records of anganwadi children and anganwadi centres would be digitalised.
