Mahadayi dispute: Cases against farmers withdrawn

The State government on Wednesday withdrew 94 cases, including 22 cases of serious nature, registered against farmers during agitations related to Mahadayi water sharing dispute in Navalgund. A State Cabinet meeting held here decided to withdraw cases against the farmers following a strong demand from legislators of the region. Cases were registered against the farmers during agitations between August, 2015 and July, 2016, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said. A bandh was observed in Navalgund town, which has been the epicentre of the farmers’ agitation demanding early resolution for the Mahadayi dispute. They had staged protests demanding implementation of the Kalasa-Banduri project and withdrawal of cases against farmers.
