A review meeting to take stock of the requirements of the Mysuru Railway Division held on Tuesday underlined the need for ₹65 crore to establish new facilities and to develop a second railway terminal in the city to cope with the increase in rail traffic.
The meeting was held at the South Western Railway headquarters at Hubballi. Mysuru MP Pratap Simha apprised officials of the long-pending demands of passengers and the general public of the South Karnataka region. He said a new railway station is imperative as the existing station has reached its carrying capacity. The proposal has received administrative nod but its progress will hinge on timely release of funds.
The MP directed officials to expedite the implementation of the Multi-Model Logistic Park at Kadakola being taken up by the Container Corporation of Indiawhich is expected to cost around ₹100 crore. He stressed the need for early completion of the new railway line between Mysuru and Kushalnagar and sought adequate provisions for it in this year’s General Budget.
According to a press release, early completion of the Logistic Park will give a boost to local industrial development.
Mr. Simha added that besides apprising officials of the requirements of the Mysuru division, there were general discussions pertaining to the ongoing works. Officials were urged to complete the electrification of the Mysuru-Bengaluru section, which is in progress as this is important to introduce additional trains and reduce the commuting time.
He also directed railway officials to introduce lifts and escalators at platforms 2, 3, 4 and 5 at the Mysuru station, as has already been done on platforms 1 and 6.
Early introduction of a new service between Mysuru and Hubballi via Bengaluru, which too has received administrative approval, completion of a road under-bridge at high-density traffic areas across the division, introduction of PoS swiping machines to facilitate cashless transaction at all stations, adoption of bio-toilets, etc. were the other issues discussed at the meeting.
