The Government has planned to promote policemen who have been in a post for more than a decade.
Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa announced this at the Police Commemoration Day here on Wednesday. He said that many police constables had been in the same post for a long time. The Government was considering giving promotions to policemen who have worked for more than 18, 25 and 28 years respectively. A notification in this regard would be issued shortly, he said.
Director-General and Inspector-General of Police Ajai Kumar Singh said the department had submitted the proposal, which would benefit nearly 5,000 personnel. He said that a constable who had put in 18 years of service would be made head constable; a head constable who had worked for 25 years would be promoted as assistant sub-inspector; and an assistant sub-inspector who has put in 28 years of service would be elevated as police inspector.
Mr. Singh said this had been a long pending demand of the policemen. “We have short-listed the number of personnel eligible for promotion. We are waiting for the notification,” he said.
Displeasure
Earlier, Mr. Yeddyurappa expressed displeasure over the time taken by officials in implementing some of the assurances made by him.
“Last time, I had promised raising the daily allowance from Rs. 50 to Rs. 100. But this is yet to be enforced. Officers should work in such a way that makes people’s confidence in the Government grow. Officials should not dilly-dally over the needs of policemen,” he said. Mr. Yeddyurappa promised that the policemen that would get the revised allowance shortly.
The Chief Minister said it would be ensured that there would be no interference in transfer of police officers. It would also give Rs. 1 crore every year for the Police Welfare Fund. The Government would spend Rs. 10 crore for improving facilities in prisons.
Mr. Singh said that a proposal had been sent for raising the number police stations in the State.
