Karnataka Labour Ministry offers unconditional apology

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has offered an “unconditional apology” for having listed manual scavenging as a “career option” on its website.

In response to the article “Government Job Portal Lists Manual Scavenging as a “career option” published in The Hindu on August 4, 2015, the Ministry has apologised “to anyone whose sentiments have been hurt due to this content posted on the portal.”

The Ministry has clarified that there was “no intention to hurt the sensitivities of any category nor to promote manual scavenging as a career option.”

Post removed

It has said that the post has been removed from the NCS portal forthwith and “the error is regretted”.
