JD (U) criticises BJP MPs for neglecting Cauvery, Mahadayi disputes

September 25, 2016 07:24 pm | Updated 07:24 pm IST - Mandya:

The district unit of the Janata Dal (United) staged a protest here on Sunday against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for neglecting the plight of farmers in connection with the Cauvery, Mahadayi and Kalasa-Banduri issues.

Some members of the party staged a protest outside Gandhi Bhavan here and blackened the photos of all the BJP MPs from the State for skipping the all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru recently to discuss the Cauvery issue. There were plethora of developments pertaining to Cauvery, Mahadayi and Kalasa-Banduri issues for the past several months, they said, adding that the farmers were expecting support from the BJP as it is the main opposition party in the State. However, the BJP State and Central leaderships failed to react to the plight of farmers. They also never demanded the intervention of the Union government to settle the Cauvery water sharing dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, they said. The agitators raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, State BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa and other leaders of the party.
