Honey trap: Four arrested on charge of robbery

The Chikkamagaluru police, on Saturday, arrested four people for allegedly luring two persons into a ‘honey trap’ and then robbing them. Among the four arrested, three had escaped from police custody in N.R. Pura on January 17. The police succeeded in tracing the accused to Shivamogga.

The arrested are Sadanand alias Arun (41), of Mandagadde in Thirthahalli, Ruksana (19), of Muttinakoppa in N.R. Pura taluk, Khairunnisa (35), of Muttinakoppa, and Mastan (39), of N.R. Pura. The police had taken Sadanand, Khairunnisa and Mastan into custody on January 17, the day when the complaint of the honey trap was filed in N.R. Pura. However, they had escaped, allegedly with the cooperation of a few police officials.

Superintendent of Police K. Annamalai said the arrests had been made following a complaint by two residents of Koppa. The accused had lured the complainants into the trap in Shivamogga in July 2016. “Later, they had demanded ₹5 lakh from the victims stating that they had videos of sexual acts they had engaged in. They were told the clips would be made public if they did not receive the money. The accused succeeded in robbing ₹2 lakh from the victims,” he said.

Three more people – Narendra, Prakash and Lijesh – allegedly involved in the case, have already been arrested by he Shivamogga police in connection with a similar case. They are in judicial custody.

Inquiry

The SP said the three had escaped from police custody. “Five policemen who allegedly let the accused escape in N.R. Pura police station have been transferred to other stations, pending a departmental inquiry against them. The Additional SP has been entrusted with the responsibility of the inquiry. Based on the inquiry report, further action will be taken against them,” he added.
