HC notice on appointment to SC/ST panel

January 17, 2017 12:00 am | Updated 12:00 am IST - Bengaluru:

The High Court of Karnataka on Monday ordered issue of notice to the State on a petition that questioned the appointment of A. Muniyappa as chairperson of Karnataka State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Justice Ashok B. Hinchigeri passed the order on a petition filed by S.B. Suresh and 12 other advocates. Stating that there are over 3,000 cases pending for adjudication, the petitioners claimed that Mr. Muniyappa does not have qualification to be appointed to the post and as he does not possess any special knowledge to discharge the powers and functions enumerated under the Karnataka State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act, 2002.
