The State government does not seem to be interested in removing Lokayukta justice Y. Bhaskar Rao from his post, alleged the former MLA A.T. Ramaswamy here on Thursday.

The government recently amended the Karnataka Lokayukta Act to have the option for removing the Lokayukta from his post. However, it had not been submitted to the Governor for his assent. “This shows that the government is not keen on stopping corruption in the institution, while in the case of the Bill on dividing BBMP into three parts, the government approached the governor for his assent instantaneiously,” Mr. Ramaswamy said at a press conference here. The government should have sent the Bill to the governor for assent and taken steps to remove him. “As per the amendment, if one-third of the members of either of the Houses of legislature submit a notice, he has to stop functioning in his office. In that way, the government could have avoided an a person alleged of being corrupt heading the institution meant for curbing corruption,” he said.

Mr. Ramaswamy said, V. Bhaskar, who was arrested by the Special Investigation Team, was felicitated by BBMP with Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda award. “What was his contribution to society that deserved such an award? Was he felicitated because he was an expert in illegal activities?” he wondered.
