Four arrested on charge of cricket betting

The Chikkamagaluru police, on Sunday, arrested four persons, including a Bharatiya Janata Party member of Chikkamagaluru City Municipal Council, on the charges of involvement in cricket betting and cheating.

The arrested are Kayi Ravi alias C.S. Ravi Kumar, CMC member, his associates, Prashanth, Abhi and Hoysala. All the accused are residents of the town.

According to a press release issued by the Superintendent of Police K. Annamalai on Monday, the arrested had made Aravind, a resident of Kuduvalli in Chikkamagaluru, invest ₹4 lakh in cricket betting after assuring him of receiving a considerable sum. Ravi Kumar and his associates were running the betting racket by attracting bidders from different places. When the complainant demanded the money back, he was told that he had lost it in betting.

Based on the complaint he filed in Basavanahalli Police Station, the police arrested the four. It is said the accused had created a WhatsApp group of people interested in cricket betting. They used to operate through mobile phones.
