Drought relief works in Tumakuru inspected

The Central team to study drought, headed by Dr. Ponnuswamy, Joint Director, DAC & FW - Crop Division, Directorate of Oil Seeds Development, Hyderabad, visited Koratagere, Madhugiri and Pavagada taluks of Tumakuru district on Friday to asses the extent of the drought in the district.

The three-member team, that includes Vijaya Thakre, Fodder Agronomist, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi, and L. Chatru Naik, DGM (QC), Department of Food and Public Distribution, Bengaluru, visited villages of the three taluks and inspected the drought relief works taken up in drought-hit areas.

Deputy Commissioner K.P. Mohan Raj explained the drought situation relief works taken up in the district to the team. He said the district was facing drinking water problems, crop loss and other issues owing to drought.

S.P. Muddahanume Gowda, MP, Anitha, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Shantharam, ZP CEO, and other officers were present.
