Dacoits assaulted a farm woman at Ballur in Aurad taluk on Monday night. Nagamma Mallahsettappa Udgire (70) was alone at home when the incident took place. Her husband had left for the farm to watch over the standing crop. Her son, who is a lecturer in Bidar, was in Bengaluru for some work.

Dacoits beat up the woman and fled with gold jewellery, a senior police officer said. Some passersby noticed that the house door was open and saw her lying unconscious. They informed the neighbours, who called the police.

She suffered injuries near her eye and on some of her fingers. She has been brought to the district hospital. Doctors said she remained unconscious for a few hours. She is still in shock, unable to speak clearly, said a doctor.

SP Prakash Nikam and Additional SP Shrihari Babu visited the patient. A dog squad was rushed to the village.
