CSR funds to benefit more lakes in Mysuru

More water bodies in Mysuru, which are in need of restoration, are set to benefit from the funds set aside under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

After Hebbal Lake, which is being restored by Infosys Foundation, a few other lakes identified in the Mysuru Local Planning Area will get back their old charm as they had been chosen for conservation. Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Ltd. has come forward to fund the conservation of a lake here.

Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha, who roped in corporates and banks to develop Mysuru lakes, told The Hindu that 15 among 133 lakes, including Hebbal lake, have been identified for immediate restoration. State Bank of Mysore, Corporation Bank and Confederation of Indian Industry have come forward to restore one lake each.

Besides, the local bodies and the government departments too have shown interest to conserve waterbodies.

Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) will be developing six lakes, while Mysuru Nirmithi Kendra has come forward to conserve two lakes. Likewise, Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) will be conserving two lakes and the engineering division of the Mysuru Zilla Panchayat has come forward to develop one lake, Ms. Shikha added.

Corporation Bank, State Bank of Mysore and Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Ltd. are contributing Rs. 50 lakh each for the conservation of lakes.

Hinkal, Alanahalli, Nachanahalli, Koorgalli, Kergalli, Bommanahalli are among the lakes whose conservation is expected to start soon. Conservation includes clearing encroachments, if any, survey, fixing boundaries, clearing silt, developing walking area around the lake and fencing.
