Bajrang Dal activist held in kidnap, extortion case

The Criminal Investigation Department on Saturday arrested Pradeep Kamalaksha, a Bajrang Dal activist and close aide of Praveen Khandya who is on the run in connection with a kidnap and extortion case in Basavanahalli in Chikkamagaluru. The jurisdictional Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kalappa Handibag, allegedly committed suicide due to his links with the case.

According to the CID officials, Pradeep, who owns a canteen, was part of the crime and helped Praveen in executing the kidnap and extortion.

This is the first arrest by the CID in this case while a massive manhunt has been launched to track down Praveen and his associates, Naveen Shetty and Abhiram. The CID officials have also announced reward for anyone sharing information about the whereabouts of the fugitives and warned that strict action would be taken against those who give shelter to them.
