Assault on Congress worker: Three teams to trace BJP MLA, his family

January 11, 2017 12:23 am | Updated 12:23 am IST - BELAGAVI:

The district police have formed three teams to trace senior BJP leader and four-time MLA for Kagwad Bharamagouda (alias) Raju Kage and his family members who are facing the charge of attempt to murder. They are accused of assaulting a Youth Congress worker, Vivek Shetty.

The victim’s complaint was registered on Monday. Thirteen persons, including Mr. Kage, have been named as accused.

Police officials on Tuesday denied having any knowledge of the accused trying to seek anticipatory bail.

Efforts made by presspersons to contact Mr. Kage went in vain as his cellphone remained switched off.

The police searched the houses of the relatives of Mr. Kage in Ugar — his native place — and other towns and villages during the day.

Review meeting

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police K. Ramachandra Rao held a north range-level meeting with Superintendents of Police and Deputy Superintends of Police at the district headquarters to review the law and order situation.
