The construction of Asare houses for flood-affected families is expected to be completed by December-end, Minister for Housing Katta Subramanya Naidu has said.
He was talking to presspersons after a review of the progress of work on the houses here on Saturday.
The work on 857 houses is under progress in Belgaum district.
Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had promised that the houses would be ready by March-end.
Earlier in the day, the Minister visited Ankli, Soundalga and Kognoli villages in Chikkodi taluk where construction of Asare houses has been taken up. Mahantesh Kavatagimath, MLC, and Deputy Commissioner Ekroop Kaur accompanied the Minister.
He said the Government would appoint alternative agencies where ever the agencies appointed by donors had not taken up construction of houses for various reasons. Several donors had urged the Government to appoint alternative agencies for construction of houses, he said.
Also, the Government would allow beneficiaries to construct houses on their own at relocation centres, he said.
BIHS
The Minister said the Government was planning to construct 1.5 lakh houses for urban poor under the Basava Indira Housing Scheme (BIHS).
The cost of each house has been estimated at Rs. 63,500. Under the scheme, the beneficiaries are required to contribute Rs. 3.500, the State Government will contribute Rs. 50,000, and the remaining amount will come as bank loan.
The Government had sanctioned 17,000 houses for Belgaum district under this scheme, Mr. Naidu said.
Legislators concerned had to forward the list of beneficiaries to the Government for launching the work on the houses, the Minister said.
Under another urban housing scheme, the Government was planning to construct houses of 300 sq. ft area at a cost of Rs. 1.3 lakh each.
Beneficiaries under the scheme are required to contribute Rs. 30,000. The Government will provide Rs. 50,000 and the remaining amount will come as bank loan.
As many as 2,525 houses had been sanctioned for Belgaum district, the Minister said.
